No Workgroup and Domain boxes are available

Symptom: When you try to add a domain using a Win2000/XP client, you find the Workgroup and Domain boxes are unavailable.

Resolution: install Client for Microsoft Networks. To do that, right-click My Network Places>Properties, right-click Local Area Connection>Properties>Install>Client>Client for Microsoft Networks.

How many protocols should  I install

General speaking, using more than one protocol for File and Printer Sharing may make a Windows network slower and unreliable, especially when XP is involved.  Choose one protocol (preferably TCP/IP) should work for most home and domain network. If you have pre-windows 2000 clients and NT serer in your mixed OS network, you can setup WINS or enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP without loading NetBEUI. You may need to add IPX only if you have Novell servers are running IPX (no TCP/IP)

How to setup the same desktop for all users

Q: I have a Win2000 pro networking with a 2000 server. Is there an easy way to keep the same desktop for all users?

A: Yes! you logon the first user like yourself, setup every thing ready and then copy your profile to default user. Whenever next new user logon will take the default settings. Default user is located in %SystemRoot%\Documents and Settings\Default User. If you can't see Default User folder, go to Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View, check Show hidden files and folders.
